I wish I had started my art journey doing this. It's really so satisfying. It solves so many of (my) problems and it's FUN. You can do it anywhere. Here, there, home, office, in the car or in Italy with me.

Finding the line and feeling the idea of what I want to paint in my little 3.5  x 8.5  inch sketchbook is so energizing. I think it's the fact that sketching is a no-commitment type of activity. It's just paper, and you can tear it up, crumple it and toss it, burn it or celebrate it. It only takes a few minutes but these little sketchbooks will last my lifetime and fill me with joy when I look back through their wine and cappuccino stained pages. You're invited to come along on my journey with the sketches below.

What a Nice Way to Spend 20 Minutes

My quick sketch of  the small boats on Isola dei Pescatori (Island of the Fishermen) which is  tiny island just across from our hotel in Stresa, Italy. I carry a tiny sketch book and a fine point sharpie almost everwhere. It's simple and I can pull it out anytime I have a quick moment, even when I'm traveling with my husband.

It unites the senses to have your hand make these quick marks. Then you have a muscle memory, a visual reference (the actual sketch) and the photograph of the scene. If you go a bit further and add a few non-scripted non-edited words, you might find you have discovered gold.
