I don't think I could count the number of workshops I've been on or given over the last 30 years. Maybe 40 or more? They have been some of the most wonderful times of my life though. All of them different and exciting.

I've learned the hard way through trial and error how to pack for a workshop. There have been times I just took way too much and had trouble carrying it all. One time I simply left a whole suitcase full of supplies and fancy clothes in Chinque Terra Italy. I just could not carry it up and down the 5 flights of stairs anymore. That was a real learning experience.

Currently, I've pared down my packing to two small suitcases. Both small enough to carry on, but one I usually check and the other I roll onto the air plane.

This has worked well (for me) especially if  I'm traveling alone and I know in advance that will be responsible for loading my own luggage. I have to be able to carry it.

The trick it getting a small second rolling suitcase that stacks onto the larger one. That helps you get through the streets safely and easily. And that's so much more enjoyable to be in control of your luggage and not struggling with it on the street corner, getting into an Uber or onto a train.

The Golden Rule: All Bags Must Roll!
